draft control adjustment

Bought a jig from Zane and things seemed to be going too easy - yoke, cover, pin replacement. Now the things that stopped me tonight about 10pm.
(1) The nut & draft control swivel for adjusting the large draft control spring tension has been hitting the top of the ram cylinder over the years and has wore away a good 1/8" area of the top rim where it hits. I tightened the spring to 3-9/16" per manual but doesn't help. I also tightened the draft control linkage nut. This is with the position control lever down and the touch control handle 2" from top.
(2) There is a large groove down the center of the cam. Is this from wear or is it supposed to be there?
(3) Does "Pull the control rod toward the back of the assembly" (Zanes 12 & 13) mean the position control lever is in the "UP" position?
(4) Last question - noticed the connecting rod for the piston doesn't hang plumb over the piston when cover is in standing up in the vise. Is there an adjustment or will it take care of itself when laid flat again?

You can't use both my jig and instructions and the other manual at the same time together. Like trying to mix oil and water. (It is possible to do "that" in an N lift :O) )

The reference to the control rod is the rod that goes from the lift mechanism to the control rod eylet on the hydraulic pump and not the touch control which should be about 2" from the top of it's travel in the quadrant to adjust the "draft" mode.

Don't be too concerned with excessive wear on the linkages. My way pretty much gets around that problem. That's why you can't use the other manual to adjust the lift. Their instructions would work if there were no wear in the linkage but that ain't going to happen. Thus my jig.

How the ram rod hangs when in the vice is not a factor. It will get to where it needs to be when it comes in contact with the depression in the ram cylinder piston.

Read my instructions again from start to finish before going ahead with trying to adjust the lift. Don't get ahead of the instructions.

One guy called me to tell me he couldn't get the position control linkage adjusted. Seems the cam follower pin would fall off the end of the cam when he pulled the lift arms down. After questioning him in depth I learned he did not have the ram cylinder mounted on the lift housing. DUH! Problem solved!
