Draft control yoke removal

Can anyone tell me how to remove the draft control yoke and draft control spring from the early 8n Ford. I see in the manual they talk about a pin but I just can"t find one. I appreciate any help.

Thanks,
Dave

Cubby:

The pin is welded to the draft control plate and prevents the draft control plunger from rotating.

The yoke is threaded onto the plunger and can be removed by turning counter clockwise if it is not rusted to the plunger as is common. If it will not turn, do not force it but rather heat the yoke to cherry red with a torch and try again. If you turn the yoke too forcefully you will break the pin from the plate and possibly damage internal components. Patience is a virtue.

Once the yoke has been removed, the spring can be removed.

Dean,
Thanks, I have been putting penetrating oil on the plunger because I guessed it was rusted. I assumed it was threaded because according to the manual that is where you adjust the tention on the draft control.

Just to be clear. I don"t need to drive a pin out to unscrew the yoke? Correct?

Thanks again Dean,

The pin that would need to be removed, is the pin that holds it to the top rocker.

What Dean is talking about is in the inside, that keeps the shaft that the yoke is threaded on to from turning.

(I think)

Correct.

There is no pin to drive out but it is very likely that you will need to heat it to get it loose.

Most of the yokes have to be heated red hot to ever get them to move. Just did a stubborn one last week. Had to get it nearly white hot with the cutting torch hot as it would go.

Then used a 1/2" rod about 16" long to turn it with while still applying the heat.

Dean and everyone,
Thanks for the help. I was able to get the yoke off without breaking anything. I had soaked it with penetrating oil overnight and used a long strong arm. What a bugger.

Thanks again for the help.

You were [b:5f46038ad4]very[/b:5f46038ad4] lucky if you didn't have to turn it red, and possibly more.
