You say “don’t tell you to shut off the gas” I assume you park it in a nice shop with a nice floor that you don’t want it to drip on? Has it ever not dripped if the gas valve was left on when it sets?

If talking about the weep hole, two things. Unburnt fuel falling back when shut off. happens more if run for short time and shut off. Needle valve and seat letting gas through seat or gasket. Possible carburetor casting problem. Hose sixed to clamp on protrusion at hole routed to catch bottle can work for occasional drips.

If it stays wet and drips after several hours, then the most likely cause is float needle does not seal properly. My Farmall M is kerosene and I know if I shut the fuel off at the home field gate, it will get into the shed from there and run out of kero just after that. Then I don't have any difficulties changing to petrol to start it.

That wetness is nothing more then the fact that what goes up in a updraft carb once the engine vacume stops now comes back down and drips out the bottom of the carb and may leave a four to six inch wet mark on the floor or dirt . NOW when that tiny DRIP becomes a steady DRIP DRIPDRIP DRIP then it's time to look into a new neddle and seat and check for a cracked float .

These are farm tractors that get used for hay and tree work, barn has gravel floor. Just started this summer. I have had trouble with the float needle sticking for a while. I have tried several different needles including an expensive one from I think McDonalds Carb.

Yea, it stops when using the tractor. I have used several different needles and cleaned the seat with toothpaste and a cotton swab in my drill press. It is mainly an annoyance. Float is good and adjusted correctly. Good to see you posting again. Thanks, Ellis

Shown in the photo is a setup a member in the Ford N board shows to test a carb for a properly sealing float needle. For an IH carb such is on an M you would need to make a 90 degree bend in the riser tube. I assume you understand that the tube is filled with gas to see if leak-by shows up. Can you confirm that you have the strainer on the carb inlet fitting and the screen in the top of the sediment bowl in place?
