Driveway alarm

Does anyone have a good suggestion for a driveway alarm,mine seems to be on the fritz and took it back to the company and still can't get it to work right.I've had it for about 6 years around $300.00 original cost so not a cheapy. Thanks

I bought one of the motion sensing alarms. It worked good. TOO good. Blowing leaves, passing birds, even raindrops would set it off. I put up with it for about 1 month. It now resides in a box somewhere in the basement.

mines just a cheap Chamberlin you can get on amazon works great wireless mines about 300 feet out the trick I found is I built a cedar birdhouse with no front and put the sensor in out of the weather first one I had the battery's got wet and corroded

IaGary recommended the Mighty Mule on this forum several years ago. I got one and really like it. The batteries last a very long time.

I've had the Dakota Alert 2500 for 6 months.
Our house is 500' from the sensor position.
Did not want deer to frighten SWMBO at 3AM.
Works very well.

Had a problem with the sensor unit. Dakota fixed and returned the unit within a week with no charge to me except
sending it to them.

Good telephone support,too.
I recommend them.

Same as I have. No batteries. The driveway hose is TOUGH. Wound it up in the snowthrower years ago and it pulled it out of the connection to the poly underground pipe. Didn't hurt that hose one bit. Been on the driveway since mid 70's.

After two foiled break-ins, we bought six Chamberlins off EBAY but I think Northern Tools also carries them too. Each one auto programs to a different number, Motion sets them off but you can set or angle them to miss dogs or cats.
We have three down our driveway, if someone or a vehicle comes in the driveway even to turn around, the base station buzzes 1 chime. 1/3 down the driveway another remote will signals 3 chimes. 2/3 down the drive another remote chimes 4 times.

Another remote chimes 2 times if someone steps up on the front porch. On the east side of our property in the only clearing if someone tried to sneak in, another remote will chime 7 times, and on the west side in the only narrow clearing a remote will chime 6 times. You can have up to 8 remotes out of one base.
Each remote is mounted on a tree so we know when a zone is violated. Each remote has 4 AA batteries that last about 1 year. The base is 110 with transformer and has 4 AA backup batteries.
We have relied on them for almost 3 years now and we sleep better knowing they are there. Once a week a squirrel will trip a remote but that's only in the day time.

The main complaint is my wife when I'm working outside, but you can turn off the base in such case, but don't forget to turn it back on at night or when your finished outside.
Each remote is about $35. Base comes with 1 remote for about $60.
Worth every penny and remote will transmit almost 1/2 mile. All of mine work great at about 600 feet from the base which is in the foyer so we can hear it anywhere in the house.

I have a mule as well
So far it has done well except when one of the grand kids beat on the sending unit with a big stick. Got another and now have one on ground floor another in upstairs bedroom. All of the sensor is underground except the sending unit which is attached to an adjacent tree trunk. Visitors never know it is there. Drive, mow and plow snow right over the sensor.

Had a motion sensor unit. Never could get
it to not false alarm. Finally gave up on
it. Not recommended.

We have a Dakota alert. It is about 1/3 of a mile from the house and works great. Change the battery once a year. The only problem is it will go off when deer walk past.

Yep got ours 5 years ago and have replaced the batteries only one time. Still going strong.
