Drop bucket loader

Hi All,

I have a 2N with a drop bucket loader. The loader uses a Vickers vane hydraulic pump.

I decided to change the hydraulic fluid in the loader. After draining and refilling it I turned on the tractor to test raising and lowering the loader. The loader kind of hesitated and the pump growled like it was starving for fluid. I unscrewed the fill plug and it appeared full. I used universal hydraulic fluid 134 c, d.

Any thoughts?

Not much to go on there. Are you sure ALL you did was drain and refill the reservoir?

If the reservoir level is above the pump you could remove the suction line and check for gravity flow from the reservoir.

If you have oil coming to the pump try disconnecting the supply line to the valve and check for output flow from the pump.

While testing the loader I removed the fill plug and noticed the fluid flowing through the pipe so I think the pump is working.

I'll check the lines you mentioned tomorrow and see what I come up with.

I also wondered if I'm using the right fluid?

Had same issue with mine. Mine is type where tubular frame holds fluid and was sucking air in thru drain plug. Doped plug, reinserted it and no more growling or hesitation.
