drop voltage from 12v to 6v???

i need a generator for my wd45 the 6v is trashed and the generator shop says they can get a new 12v delco for 45.00 but its 12 volt, i have a brand new 6v battery and would like to keep it... SO is there something i can put in line to drop the voltage from 12v to 6v or an amount of power the battery can handle without burning it up? only other option is to try to sell the new 6v battery But i know id get beat to death on the price even know its new... thanks

just tried tracking down an in-line voltage drop and had no luck. My local NAPA used to have them but they dropped the line. may have to get the old generator rebuilt unless your luck is better than mine.

i decide that they wanted too much money to fix the old 6v generator so i bought a 12v 1 wire delco and il put in a new 12v battery, and sell the new 6v battery

Delco 1 wire is trouble from the get go and cost you 2 or 3 times more then a Delco 10si 3 wire and the 3 wire if you get it at the right place might even have a life time warranty

in my opinion, if they are offering to sell you a 12 volt generator, all you need is a 6 volt regulator and you can keep everything else as is. The regulator is what determines system voltage.
