Dry beans

6620,218 flexhead beans are running 9%. Fan at 870, cylinder open to 18. No beans on stalks, on the walkers. Cylinder speed 360. Chaff and seive at 1/2 inch. Just cut 22 acres, usually makes 50. Bpa, looked like 50. Hardly made 40. What am I doing wrong? Thanks

"looks like 50". Maybe 40 is all they really are. If header loss is happening you would find beans on the ground.Lots of em. Look directly behind the headerLook directly behind to see what is comming out the back.Maybe you are doing nothing wrong,"looks like" can
be decieveing.It is what it is.

you need to shut the machine down and go look around to see if you head shelling of blowing them over the back. the steams may look 50 but are the beans small?

If you are losing 10 bpa. in field you
will know it. Look behind header. You will
easily see the loss. Only way to save some
of those is make sure your real speed is
timed perfectly with your travel speed.
Also is the knife sharp. That helps a
little in dry beans. Next brush the chaff
off rear axle, go a couple hundred feet
and look what lands on that axle. That
will tell you a lot. And finally get on
your hands and knees behind combine. Brush
the stems away and get down and blow the
chaff away. What do you see? Now that you
know where the beans are being lost you
can go about correcting it. Does your
manual give you some pointers? Go online
and copy off the cheat sheet for combining
beans ie. If your loosing losing beans
here do this first, this second and so on.
If you truly are losing 10 bpa. you need
to stop. At $10/bushel thats 100 an acre.
You could hire someone to harvest and come
out many dollars ahead. Something just
occurred to me. Is the door on the rock
trap tight? Holes wore through bottom of
head? Clean grain auger tube? Give a good
look underneath that machine. Do not go
any further until you figure out what's
wrong.

The beans are small Turns out I have 4 sizes large, normal, small and BB. Nothing leaking underneth, about 5 beans behind the head. Thank you for your suggestions.
