DU-AL blues

Hello fellow rust lovers
I've got this 63. D17 with a DU-AL front end loader. C27355
This keeps the ladies in hay and every other chore I can think of.
One of my cylinders went down on the loader and it's looking like a rebuild will be impossible due to lack of the correct packings
Is this true to your vast knowledge?

And if so, alas has anyone swapped cylinders out with something similar?

Any help would be appreciated
Still have 170 bale to move out of the winter quarters

Who is saying there is a lack of correct packings? You or a real hydraulic shop that rebuilds cylinders? A good shop should be able to match sealing parts up. Baum Hydraulics is one place that shows a number of packing kits for Du-Al loaders. Or they have drawings that let you match new seals to your old ones.

What is your C27355 number? All the Du-Al loader model numbers I find are 3 digits. Woods bought Du-Al, have you checked with a Woods dealer?

The hydraulic shop in Springfield
Missouri told me that what was standard
size is no longer standard size, to
include materials used in the process
So far my search has turned up nothing.
The only # on the entire thing is
C27355 Du-Al mgf. South Dakota pat #
2,619,242.
How much trouble is it to just replace
the cylinders? Something More modern,,
but equal in performance

Don't give up just yet!

As crude as those cylinders may look to you in this era they were not a ''bad'' product and unless deeply scored will work for years to come with new seals.

In what area did you find the ''C27355'' number, stamped into the main frame or on tag? Or?

Can you post a photo so we can figure out what loader you have, POSSIBLY a ''320'' or a ''345''?

Once it's identified Woods MAY still have the seals, or, very likely Baum can still supply them.

Just because one hydraulic place that MAY be used to working with more modern or industrial stuff doesn't have them that's not to say that the are not available from a supplier more familiar with older ag stuff.

Du-Al ''345'' parts link, as an example.

I will get a pic out there,
But for the moment,
The # is stamped on a tag and welded to
the right side upright. As big as it
is, it was meant for something or
someone.
49 inches is what the cylinder
measures bolt to bolt fully collapsed.
A most excellent implement and the
backbone of my cattle operation
I've got 100 head to maintain and
winter rolling in. I just know this is
rebuildable No pitting nothing wrong
just old, and needs seals.
Somewhere on a shelf dusty and
forgotten is a rebuild kit. I've seen
them,. But that was 15; years ago

The number on the tag is likely a serial number.

Bore, stroke and rod diameter along with pictures would help. Baum lists a good bit of that info for their kits to head you in the right direction. The parts books at Messick's may as well. Did the shop take the cylinders apart and do you have pictures of the sealing parts if they reassembled it?

To wore out,. That link is it buddy
I will mic the rod and OD, but
definitely a turn in the right
direction.
Thanks

I can buy packing at my local hardware store for my du-al loader. Do you know the diameter of the rod? My cylinders are hollow and one of my bucket cylinders has a dent in it. Some day I d like to replace that rod.

My bro has a Du-All 345 he has trouble getting packings and seal for his also! I would measure every thing with a caliper, and call Baum Hyd in Omaha, ask for Jerry if he hasn't retired yet,, he is a sharp guy that farms himself!

Those #'s won't help you. What you should do is post pics of the loader to get the help your asking for. I have sold Dual new, for years so help us help you
