Ductless Mini Split systems

I am not new here been here about twenty years just got around to registering. There are places on the internet such as Alpine, HVAC direct and AC wholesale. 28,000 BTU seems a little high I can do 2000 sq ft 2story house with a 30,000 BTU unit. Mini split with heat pump can start about $1000.00 Better to put your money in insulation then unit size. Geo brings up a good point who will install it and who will service it. Parts may be under warrenty but not labor. Better to go with a company unless you can fix it urself. Bill
bhb 1, didn’t you want to continue using your old handle? (Username) I am sure if you use the “Contact us” in the red at the bottom the mods will assist you to make that happen.

I purchased a Blueridge unit from Alpine in Kentucky. It was an on line purchase. I installed it myself. Two ceiling cartridges and one power unit outside. My biggest problem is temperature control. Sometimes it gets going and won't shut off. Sometimes it just doesn't start back up.I need to shut if off, wait 10 minutes and turn it back on.
Today, I have it set to 71 deg and just now shut it off at 76. Last summer, I have it set to 73 deg air conditioning and it keeps on running at 67 deg. Temperature control is terrible. I would buy one made in Japan next time as opposed to one made in china. I think the Japanese units are more advanced with their controls. My two cents.

The Japanese units aren't actually made in Japan.

Has anyone ever used one of these systems for Heat/AC in your house or garage. I am wanting to use one in my 30 x 30 garage with upstairs storage. Is there a name brand thats better than the other. Warranty seems same on most 2 year parts on everything 7 year on compressor. The man said a 28000btu unit would be all that i would need. To keep it tractor related i dont think this unit will work on my 135 massey ferguson or will it LOL.
Thank you

Geo i would buy one from your BIL if the price was right. Maybe he could actually tell me the size i would actually need . If you email me his phone number i would love to call and ask.
Thanks again for yalls input and help..
I had Three inside units installed a couple years ago, 2 ,12000 and one 16000 BTU. units ! Mitsubishi brand. I was quoted 2 K per room, They have worked falsely And I use it both for fall heat and summer AC. If I were to do it again I'd do the install my self as it is so simple a trained monkey could do it !! just go online and look it up ! The one thing to do though is get an electrician to put them on 220,as it's cheaper to operate ! by the way I've installed 4 for other people !! Jim in N. M.

about 8 months in to a Mitsubishi 20,000 on a very well insulated 30x30. Heat pump set it on 59 degrees this winter and shop was perfect to go up and work in on the coldest days. Could never tell any difference in light bill. One of my coffee buddies owned a heat and air retired and gave it to his son. Son sold me the unit in the box for $2100 and my buddy and I installed it in about 3 hrs. Been using a mr heater butane before and took forever to warm up the shop, best money I ever spent.

I have three Pioneer units (much cheaper made in mexico) and I installed them all myself. Pre-charged and quite east. Oldest is 2019, newest is 2023. The only issue I had was a board went out on one due to a lightning strike. Pioneer support was great, they helped me trouble shoot over the phone and sent me the board. Replaced it and was back in business. The inverter technology is amazing. The power consumption is so small. Mine are 12000 BTU, and 24000 BTU. I recommend them.

Size wise, I have a 24000 BTU unit on my 26 X 30 shop. I have R19 in the attic and the walls are R6. I live in SC. It easily handles 12 degrees F and 95 F. I leave it on 70 degrees all the time and really don't even notice it on the electric bill.
