Dumb Question

Can a motor be so badly worn that it will fire off and run with a shot of either but will not run on diesel. I have a Fordson Super Major for 15 years. I have run out of fuel many times and bled the system with no problems starting. I have bled the system. Someone turning it over, while I bleed it. I opened the injector lines and fuel is reaching them. I also took the air cleaner off. The tractor is well worn. And no I did not always use either but it would need to have the heater on to help it start.thanks

Certainly it's possible. But before ripping and tearing I would make absolutely sure fuel supply is OK. I recently had an issue with my combine where I had to blow back through the line into the tank, AND replace the primary filter(which was new in July) before getting back to normal. I've heard of others having similar issues. I was so frustrated I cut the filter open, and couldn't really see anything!

I'd hook another tractor to it and pull start it you may have to pull it quite a ways. Some older diesels are about impossible to get started by cranking them with the starter once they run out of fuel.

We had a 1956 Ford Major back in the late 50's. Always had to use either to start it. Always tried to park it on a hill to ease starting. Never used it in the winter, parked it when it started to get into the twenties.
It was a good tractor back in the day, once we got it started.
I'm not much help as far as your problem goes.
Just saying, Good Luck.

In The Past I have Had A Fuel Issue, Cranking Did Not Help , But Pulling It Did A Great Help. I Did Pull It Around The Barn A Couple Of Times But It Came To Life Ands Run Great. I Do Not Think It Could Be Tired That Quick, I Feel Thats Some Thing That Comes with Time, Wear, Abuse, Ect.

Bob, don't you have a John Deere combine. Anyway,
the first filter has a medium in it to absorb water and second is more for sediment. But, I swear water will shut both of them down. Look good when cut open.
