Early 77 Gen to alt conversion

Just finishing up a on restoring a early 50' 77 Row Crop. We are converting the charging system from a Generator to an alternator. Korves has sent us a wiring harness, but the diagram isn't very clear to me. To my understanding, the one-wire (Red) goes on the alternator & is hooked to the hot side of the start button. From the start button, it is then attached to the right post (as you are looking from the front of the tractor) of the amp meter. Then from the left post to the "Bat" on the ignition switch. Seems weird to me that the alternator will have 12-volts running to it at all times.

You are thinking in "generator mode", as they have cutouts that open disconnecting the generator from the battery any time the generator is not charging.

On the contrary, most common alternator systems have power to the alternator's output terminal at all times.
