Early H choke rod routing

I have an early model H (1940). It was my dad's tractor and has not been run in 15 years. I was able to rebuild a few things and get it going last week. My plans are to "restore" it.

My choke rod has been cut and sliced together. I also do not think it is routed properly. There is also a return spring hooked to the carb from under a governor screw. Does anyone have pictures of an early H choke rod routing, clips, etc. that they can show?

Maybe these will help. Goes thru an “eye” on side of the rear gas tank mount. Then straight to behind the air cleaner cup. Benda and goes behind air tube then over it to hook outside the carb.

My 43 M is routed like that. My 43 H hooks on the other side of the carb and comes up through a hole on the light bar.

Do you mean some attachment on the vertical steering wheel support post? Most identify the light bar as the horizontal tube the lights mount on with the narrow diamond support plate on it.

So, it appears there is a support bracket on both the front and rear fuel tank supports. Mine only has the bracket on the rear support. I will have to source some pieces for sure. I'm sure these won't be the only issues I have.

Look close at “eye”. Think i welded a 1/4 inch washer to a bolt head and used that for the “eye”.

Some things to consider. Choke rods were only showed in battery starting attachments on early tractors. When attachments with starter were installed on tractors below serial 57532 a starter gear needed added to flywheel and pulley changed on coolant pump for generator belt drive. Not sure if all early tractors were equipped with choke rod if hand crank. Early choke rod used to serial 70409. Not sure if all equipped with center support for rod. From what I remember the early rod went on outside left side on rear fuel tank support. U shaped wire was through hole in tank support with ears bent to retain a spring. Choke rod passed through the U and spring held tension on rod. Same parts as M center support of choke rod. Spent lot of hours on early 41 model. It had choke rod like described, start rod through steering post, thick light clamps and light bar block. Don't remember it having a center support for choke rod but may had. Since it was 7 years older than me, can't say how much was original. Do know it was switched to later PTO. It already had the splined countershaft in transmission. Another thing affecting choke rod location is at least 5 different rear tank supports were used over production. Just remembered the piece with spring for choke rod eventually wore through.

I have two hand-crank H's. There's no choke rod on either one.
