picked up my ih 4000 swather yesterday. welded some 8 flat bar on the sides of trailer get make it fit. took nerves of steel to crawl up there with out dumping it overboard. i think its going to be harder to unload this morning, but i am going to jack and turn the rear wheels in the backup position first before trying anything.think i will pull the ramps off and just throw some timber behind in a ditch. wonder if any one can find the year,? serial number 131000000001751.

Uhmmm you better turn the small tires, with the help of a jack so they dont pivot on the trailer, what little room you have!

ya, if a person was doing this often i would look into making extensions fit into the pockets. second time i had to weld these on.

i was planning on that, plus only loosening chains enough to jack it.

If you don't care about slow, you could chain the casters straight (after turning them as indicated) this would reduce the whip tendency of the steering to a large degree. It migh require an angle to the chains to get them to be straight. You could also pull it off from a Y chain setup and not run it at all. Jim

slow is good, loaded was as slow as a winch pulling. i dont trust not running ... as no control on the speed once it hits ramp. hydrostatic pump can feather it in, just that i am in that box if it flips, ouch, or more. but i guess there is the winch to hold it back also. need to call on help for that. darn near killed the mrs. pulling a grain truck off this trailer few years ago. truck had no brakes and thought i had enough chain had about 40 ft , but when that truck took off down the ramp it ran right into the tractor fender. kinda gave her hell and said if you see something coming at you speed the tractor up as fast as you can, even go side ways so now really really cautious. so yes slow is good and so is fast.

Not sure what you're so worried about hauled lots of things that only sat on half the tire even in the winter would load pavers with half a tire on the deck and had to drive them most of the way on the trailer deck to balance weight. Fun is when the trailer deck is ice covered and need to unload or load. honey wagons with those knobby tires and only one knob on the trailer on each side. If I was going to use that trailer for that much I would make some removable out riggers to slip in the stake pockets. Then drop a plank on them less slippery than steel. Excavators with steel tracks are more challenge than that.

i am not worried at all about the tires half on, and dont know how you got that idea. the thing is too get it backing up straight as going down the ramp is narrower without those extensions with about 3 on each tire. and you know how swathers are to back up , not like driving ahead. but i got it backed up and unloaded safely.

Thats how we did it at the fiat dealer . Then jack up the rear turn the casters around and back off . Thats a nice looking rig
