Echo weedeater

I have problems with starting. Seems like it wants to flood easy .
I gave it a shot of either. Cranked 5-6 times. No go - took plug out blew both cyl and plug out. And it started right up. Could it be mixture?

They can flood.

Usually it happens while stored, fills the crankcase. If severe enough, when you pull the rope, it
kicks back and snatches the handle out of your hand!

If it continues, replace the metering diaphragm, the one that covers the needle valve. Or replace
the carb with a China clone from Ebay.

davyfireball,

You did not say how wide is the spark plug gapped?. Gap it between .025 to .030. usually they are factory
gapped and spec at.020. It is NOT enough gap, as they tend to get fowled up as time goes by. Also check
the ignition coil gap. It should be at least .010. You can open it up to .011 or .012, and see what
happens.

Must echoes I get to repair, I set the air gap @.011, and the come alive!

Well first you don't use either. It is like murder on 2 cycle piston rings. use something gentler, like aerosol carb. cleaner.

Steve at Advance is mostly correct, but change the metering needle as well as the diaphragm. Also, make sure the vent (the little white
thingy usually on the third fuel line from the tank) can both open at about 7 psi as well as let air in at about 7 inches vacuum. The
metering needle keeps fuel from flooding the intake and the vent keeps pressure in the tank and fuel lines from getting so high it pops the
metering needle open and then fuel can enter the engine.

(quoted from post at 07:15:48 08/15/21) Thanks for replying . Ill check those things - again thanks a lot.

I hope you get your problem fixed. But, I went electric and never looked back. I have three gas weed eaters, even one with a four cycle engine so, no mixing gas and oil.

Now they all sit unused because I went battery powered and will never go back to gas. Battery powered machines are much more versatile.

I set the air gap for 00.12 and the new plug at 35 ( first crank ) .Its alive thanks guys- I dont have any ideA how old this weedeater is I dug it out of a ditch 7 years ago. Not kidding- put new gas in and it started back then. Bought new carb for $12 - 3 years ago - plug cost me $4 . And thats all I got in it

davyfireball,

I am glade you got it going! Like I said Opening the gap some makes them come alive
The wider the spark plug gap, the longer the plug life.

My 2006 weed eater has the original plug in it. I actually needed to put a torch to it this year, and she
came out clean as a whistle. The plug is gapped at .028 and it is a 4 cycle. I fill it up at least once before I finish using it

make sure that the exhaust screen is clean! strange things happen when the screen is plugged on the exhaust. remove the muffler and
see if it runs.
