Electric 760 A weight rating

I'm wondering what this gear was rated for. I picked it up a while ago for not too much money, got it torn apart and that's where it's been at for the last 7-8 years.

This week we went to a neighbors estate auction, looking to buy a few things and got outbid on his pair of Meyers chopper wagons, but come to find out the guy only wanted the gears. We struck a deal and we have 1 heavy running gear that was under another Meyers wagon that blew the gear box a few years ago, but for the time being we borrowed the heaviest running gear from our hay wagons just to get it off his gears and get it home.

I got to thinking about this gear and was wondering what it might hold... It's got 6 bolt hubs and looks fairly heavy, but not nearly as heavy as our other running gear. That said, it still looks heavier than the Knowles and Gehl (Knowles built) gears the neighbor had underneath. Can't trail any worse either...

If it'll work (atleast for now), I just might have the motivation to find all the parts for it and get it back together after all these years.

Are you sure it is an Electric running gear??? The ones a round here all had a four digit model number. I think Whites wagons where made by electric too. Think I am remembering that correctly.

Here is a chart that a fellow posted one here a few years ago with some model numbers and capacities. Maybe you can match your spindle size and hub to a model to get some idea of the rating on yours.

I probably have the model wrong, but I know for a fact it's an electric. It still had some of the decal on it when I bought it, plus the very distinctive steering setup for the tongue.

I took the tag off it a while ago, and put it in the glove box of my old truck. Gotta look if it's still there. I don't think there is much left on the gear itself anymore.

With 6 bolt wheels it might be better suited for a hay rack than a forage box?

Edit... I just found the tag and it says electric wheel co. with the model as 760.

As far as being to light, yeah this one is probably still a little light, but for now it's what we've got available on short notice.

Might still be cheaper to find a bigger one that already has implement tires on it though.

Most of the ten plus year old boxes tend to hold around 700 cubic feet requiring carrying capacity of 12 tons or more. The heaviest I have seen in 4 wheel wagons that are SIX bolt wheels (not 8) tend to be 10 ton gears. You could probably use your gear but just remember not to fully load it. The neighbor years ago was always good at remembering things such as that. I have seen some pretty good deals on Gehl 970 boxes lately and do realize the parts situation. There were going to be a couple of IH 120's (Kasten) that were going through an auction today and they probably could have been bought pretty cheap. A guy could probably buy boxes at sales for a couple more weeks here. Anyways, you can make it work but just remember the limits involved.
