electric start engine

I found a 8 hp engine on craigslist with electric start it looks like you would plug into wall outlet I would like to purchase this motor my question is I want to install this on my wood splitter but would be hooking up to my four wheeler battery to use the starter feature of this motor would this work or should I be looking for something else

The 120vac motor will not work directly on the battery at all. It might work on 120DC. But you don't have that. Inverters that change 12v to 120 AC are available from many sources but the cost to deliver 6 amps or so of AC power might be expensive. Jim

Can't you pull start the engine?

Go to ebay or Amazon and see if you can't buy a 12v starter.

One time I bought a flywheel, generator, voltage regulator and 12v starter because it was too hard for me to start a 13 hp honda.

I can still pull start my log splitter but as I age it gets tougher I know splitting wood is you guys fun
but still enjoy a fire in the work shop in January

(quoted from post at 14:34:06 07/17/22) If the engine is from a snowblower, you might not want it. Those engines usually dont have air cleaner fitted to the carb.

And most have a heat shield around the carb to keep them from freezing up and ice forming. The shield also can have the choke and throttle control attached to them. It would have to be removed to install an air filter and allow the engine to run cooler.

Skip all that none sense and just plug it into the couplers on the back of the tractor and work it. No fooling around with little crappy non starting gas engines.

Yeah and plan on spending on spending a week and a lot of up and down trips doing what a little 8 hp 2 stage splitter could do in a couple of hours.

I find that todays small engines are very easy to start and great on fuel. I quit buying electric start small engines since it's a waste of money in today's world.

What are up and down trips? I get the impression that you think a three point splitter is slow, but would that not depend on the tractor gpm?

I have an 8 HP B@S old flathead engine I paid $150 for years ago and I can pull start it in 2 pulls.
It is on the splitter.
I keep my 8N hooked to the wood trailer and my Kubota 5030 loader to pick up blocks to roll onto big splitter table.
I ain't running a tractor to operate the splitter.

While that's a snowblower engine, you should be able to just buy a 12 volt starter for it.However, you will need to check into the charging system for it.It MAY have a battery charging system, but if equipped with the 110 volt starter it may have a little generating system to run a headlight.I found the setup on a late model engine ran a headlight just fine, but was not suitable to charge a battery at all.

Yes my Ford 3000 was running 7 GPM at PTO RPM. The little 2 stage pump requiring 8 HP to operate runs 16 GPM in the unloaded travel out and back functions. Plus I sit adjacent to it and the splitter, and roll the logs onto the splitter, sometimes close enough to remain seated, and reach over and operate the controls.
