Electronic Ignition

In my opinion, yes. Changed my 1020 over 15 years ago and have not looked back. Main problem I was having was obtaining good quality points. Have changed over several units for customers since

A simple but effective electronic ignition can be made with an abs wheel sensor ((Hall effect magnetic pick up), a solid state oilless late model Gm coil, and a 4 prong HEI modual. I have picked up these parts in a salvage yard for less than $10.

I would say yes it is. Be sure to order the one for your tractor, =/- ground. Can be ordered from this site, YTD tractors. I have changed over 2 tractors and a jeep to EI. With problems I hear here getting a good condenser it is well worth it.

Last set of points for the 4020 were over $20.
Probably more now. 4 sets of points would just
about pay for elect. ign. set-up.

Yes, I installed a Pertronix in my 4020 in 2000 still works fine. Duel 12 volts hooked up trough a remote solenoid coupled with a 20 series Delco greatly improved the starting. I also installed the plug inserts that allow the platinum tipped plugs.

After spending an hour swearing like a sailor trying to get the points gap right on my 301A, I installed an electronic unit and never looked back.
