Electronic ignition

Has anyone installed this on their tractor. I have mine on a show tractor and had nothing but bother with it. Driving along then all of a sudden stop then tractor battery dead. Send me pictures of yours if you have. Tried to start the tractor today and wont start no spark!

i have pertronix EI in my 2N and it works great, has for 3 years now.

what exactly do you want a picture of?

Pictures of your wiring. Do you have a wire direct from the
battery? I had to as I couldnt get power to the front ignition
to work.

a wire connects the always hot terminal of the starter switch on the front of the steering box to the common (lower) terminal on the OEM ballast resistor, from there, it goes to the ignition switch, and the other wire from the switch comes back to one of the top two terminals on the OEM ballast resistor. a wire connects the other top terminal to the top of the front mount coil. i simply added the red wire to the EI to that same terminal on top of the coil.

ou must know more about his tractor than he has said here, since wiring depends on POS/NEG ground.

i don't know what his setup is. he asked me about mine. i told him.

If the battery is going dead while running you likely have some other problem.

There are many here who have had good luck with electronic ignition.
There are many who have had good luck with points.
There are also many who have had poor luck with with both.
The difference between those who have good luck vs bad luck is not Fate.
The difference is some people have buckled down and Learned about tractor ignitions. They have read manuals, watched youtube videos, asked questions here and bought a cheap but all important volt/ohm meter - and learned how to use it.
There is no magic bullet, or kit or farie dust that will cure your electrical problems.
There is no one who can learn it for you.
It is you who must do the work of learning this stuff and it really isn't very hard.
Only then will you know the pleasure of owning a Good running tractor and have the skills and confidence to keep it running that way.

'bought a cheap but all important volt/ohm meter'

meters are wonderful tools. they're really handy for people who ever use electricity :)

Is the battery dead? What caused that? New battery no spark? Old battery recharged or jumped and no spark?

his statement sure sounds like he has no provision to turn off the ignition. If so, sure would kill the battery, if not the EI as well.

Example : went to a show last year. Fully charged battery
tractor stopped after about 100 yards wouldnt start again
no spark. Later on changed the battery at the show I had a
spare with me it started and ran no problem.

My tractor is positive earth. Its very temperamental since I
finished painting it. Didnt do this before! Just a wiring
diagram of what other people have done would be helpful .

his is what you should have as far as I can tell, based on what I see in your posts.

(quoted from post at 10:42:05 05/09/23) Thank you, will give this a look through.
I just fix no spark problem. I open the side distributor and found the rotor in pieces. Not sure why it happened. But I put new one on and so far so good.

Just had a look over it all and your picture is exactly what I
have although, the wire from the coil you have marked earth
I have this on the earth strap from the battery.

ounds as though the wiring is correct. One cause of an abrupt no spark condition is a loose or intermittent connection . Any where these ignition related wires connect can be such a spot as well as battery cables at either ends. Another notorious spot in front mount distributors is the coil pig tail-to-screw connection. It becomes very marginal at extremes of timing adjustment.

That might be a clue, I'd take every connection and clean and tighten.
