End plate bushing

This is the bushing in the end plate of the starter on '46 2N that has been chewed up by the flywheel. Any ideas why it came out? I'm afraid if I replace with the new one I'll happen again.

Is the hole in the endplate wallowed out or the shaft buggered up?? That'd be my two best guesses. Good Luck !!

I dont know. I've had the starter off and appart several times but this is the only time I've ever had the bushing to slide out. I've got a new one on the way, guess I'll see when it gets here.

Some times "in the old days" a mechanic would "stake" a bushing. Re; use a center punch and make several rows of punch marks to "build up " the bushing. Go easy.
Some called it farmerizing. Get-R-dun

Those oillite bushings don't take too well with staking. It would be better to punch (knurl) the inside of the plate.

I've been trying to read and understand this for hours, trying to keep my typer shut, I am about drunk enough to give up and ask my question.

IF, that is the end plate bushing..

Where the brushes are...

Just how the "Ell did your flywheel git down there to do that?
