Energy cells

My super88 diesel sat for 20 years before I got it running. Starts good, just doesn't seem to have the power I think it should. Wondering if the energy cells need cleaned? Pump was gone thru, probably should pull the injectors and have them checked also.. Or do I just need to run it under a load for a while to get everything cleaned out?

You can give that a try, but if the energy cells are plugged with carbon, it will take mechanical means to clean them.

For me if it starts and runs o/k I wouldnt get into trying to pull energy cells as a cure for lack of jam. Those suckers can be a real pain to remove, and in the midst of trying you may lose the seal between the two lapped faces. In my opinion if you are at some point going to pull the head and give her a valve job and renew the injectors that would be the time to do the energy cells.

Some years ago I bought an energy cell puller & I thought I might need it someday, but I never used it. I would sell it if someone needed it. Thanks, Kent Gordon. 903 391 7626

I mad a puller. 13/16 special do not remember the thread. I have used it on 3 tractors with a 50% success rate. That is 9 good pulls of the other 9, 7 came out with a punch sometimes a little heat. The other 2 were more difficult one came out in a press the other is still in the head, heat and a press did not budge it.
