Engine compression psi

What is an acceptable compression on a JD 1944LA (cold)?

No idea, BUT, my sleeved and new ringed '60 has 125 psi.

Most any engine unless an all fuel should have 125 plus psi of compression to be in good shape and at least 90 to run well if at all

What does it have now for compression. Check it and then put some lite oil in the plug hole off to the side of where the piston is and turn it over some then test it again to see if it came up. If it did then the rings are weak but will get better when it warms up. Im thinking like the others on here that it should be up around 125. Also the valves could be hold open from been to tight and some times carbon will hang them up a little and then leak around then. If it runs good I would not mess with it unless it is doing some thing like burning oil or hard starting or low power. Let us know more so we can help you.

That was a low compression engine, I would be happy with 100+
