Engine conversion? 2n motor / oil pan - really dumb question

What actually supports the front end of the tractor? the oil pan, or the block?

In other words if you removed the engine block would the pan still support the front end? There's nothing really connecting the two other than the top of the block @ the transmission connection?

The oil pan . I have a few that I used an oil pan to connect the trans/rear end to the front axle so I could roll them out of the shop .

Ken is correct.
For rolling it around a bit the pan alone is fine.
It is the block and pan together that makes the tractor so rugged.

Hey Jerry,

That looks EXACTLY like one of my 8Ns, LOL. I had visions of one of my grandsons participating in the rebuild of it with me. But that hasn't happened, but I still have a bit of hope. So it still looks just like the picture shows. However, I did get the engine rebuilt and it is still wrapped in plastic down in the basement. When I removed the sleeves, I found a hole punched through the block where some idiot had previously used maybe a big screwdriver to split some previous sleeve. The block was then bored and fitted with thick wall repair sleeves. So I have a set of 4 replacement sleeves still in original packages. Someday it will live again.

Paul,
I was thinking of you too when I posted those photos :)

That's getting on to 11-12 years ago now from when you bought that from me.
Time flys.

You can also remove the entire engine and bolt a chunk of angle iron (or equivalent) across the bell housing that will rest on the radius rods

Thanks. One of those 'I have to move this thing out of the way - now' flashes. It was on blocks and stands with the front axle and RR's 'over there'. Et Voila !
