engine coolant

Has anyone ever used the newer "pink/orange" colored, "extended life" engine coolant in their 'N'? Would there be any ill ramifications such as incompatibility with internal engine parts to using it? Thanks in advance. Dave (NE OH)

RZ.Extended life antifreeze will work great in your N with no problems. But the red and green antifreeze should not be mixed together. The old green stuff just needs to be completely drained out,and that is a good time to back flush the block and radiator, check or replace the thermostat.Remove one end next to the head of the upper and lower hoses Back flush with fresh water and a hose, make up a fitting to fit the block(that will get most of the crud out that has been living in the block for decades) and radiator. The drains are,1/4"npt short pipe coupled to garden hose works good for back flushing.Once clear, drain all water out and add the new antifreeze.

Works fine but if you mix it with an older glycol type antifreeze you will lose a lot of the 'extended" life performance. Basically back to the original glycol drain intervals.

A radiator repair friend who is about to retire after many years of fixing every radiator and heater core type you could imagine says the red stuff is only good to kill unwanted plants and weeds. I use the green stuff only.
