Engine noise

My MF35 with a z134 engine was working fine no knocking then there was some clanging and then some whirring noise so I shut it off now the starter just clicks

Sounds like your starter got hung up and the bendix exploded.

I'd hazard a guess that the starter bendix came out while it was running, clanked into position and started getting spun by the flywheel. But that's a wild guess without some more knowledge. Try rolling the engine over by hand with the tranny in neutral to see if it feels locked up. Or start by removing the starter and seeing what it looks like.
