Engine number decoding please.

Ford 3 cylinder gas - on the casting above the oil pan - D767848 - claimed to be a 1966 201cid.

Thanks
David
Hello David , That is not a casting number . A 1966 casting number would be raised and begin with C5NN6015 . There would be a letter or two afterwards called a suffix letter to specifiy applications. I don’t know the Suffix Letter off the top of my head . The number on the oil pan rail is a Stamped Serial Number . I believe Ford serial numbered all engines beginning with the 1965 3 cylinder engines for warranty purposes . The Foil tag under the Hood of the 3 cylinder tractors lists the production date of the engine but does not list that serial number nor does it match the serial number of the tractor itself . Thanks Tony

D767848 looks like an engine serial number for a 4000, but it would be mid-'68 or newer. If it was a 1966 and gas, it would be a 192 c.i.
Check the right front mounting ear of the block for more stamped numbers. There should be a date code there.

Images supplied by the seller - Tractor supposedly a 4200, now disassembled/parted out.

D in engine serial number indicates it is for a 4000 series
0B01 engine assembly date is February 01,1970
All 4000 3 cylinder engines had the same 4.4 bore and the blocks were the same weather gas or diesel, after mid 68 192 gas engines were upgraded to 201 and both gas and diesel used the heavier diesel rods, 65/mid 68 gas engines had lighter rods than diesels
