Engine sound

This is a 1960 massey ferguson 35 three cylinder don't know if the sound is good enough but should I be concerned about the knock?

i can hear the knock and it dont sound normal.

Hi, firstly a 3-cyl will sound noisier than a 4-cyl and a 2-cyl noisier
still. The ‘diesel’ knock is normal. If there were any problems what
you would hear would be a deeper noise, more of a ‘thump’. Yours is
running evenly so all would appear to be ok.

Can anyone tell me exactly what causes the diesel knock?

Engine knock is caused by pre-ignition of the fuel. Direct injected diesel engines are more prone to knocking. Some of the fuel starts to ignite before the piston reaches top dead center. The sudden pressure change and rapid combustion completion causes the knock. The piston is sort of hitting a brick wall so to speak. All this is accounted for in diesel engine designs .
Sometimes the fuel pump timing may be a little off making the knocking sound even louder.

If something is really knocking together it more than likely is making little metal bits that will show up in the oil filter or even directly visible in the oil.

Maybe when changing the oil and filter cut it apart to look for sparkles.

Your engine sounds normal as far as the knock goes but I could hear a slight squeaking sound in part of the audio.

I can hear a slight squeeking in the audio also, but I don't it's nothing to worry about. The problem is everyone is so used to modern engines being very quite, but for a tractor (especially the old ones) it's normal for them to be a little noisey.

All I hear is the preignition knock. Can't hear the squeak noise as my ears are bad and don't pick up high pitches.
