Engine Swap

I have a 1969 Ford 3000 tractor, gasoline engine, with a blown engine. I would like to replace the engine with a 4630 201 cuin, non turbo diesel engine. Can this swap be accomplished without too many modifications? Will the power steering and hydraulic pumps interchange from the gasoline engine to the diesel engine.

You will need the fuel system from the diesel, including the tank, or else you will need to modify the gas tank to accept the excess fuel return line. The tank from the 4630 might not fit under the sheet metal on the 3000 though, as they changed the height on the 3000 tin at one point.

You ll want to remove the side cover on the 4630 engine to see if the hydraulic pump drive gear is there, if not you can use the one from the 3000 engine
The engines are a direct fit but you will need to use the 3000 flywheel for its 2 stage clutch
You will need to swap the flywheel starter rings as the 3000 gas flywheel ring won t work with the diesel starter, gas starter doesn t have the cranking power to start a diesel
You ll need to fab piping to use the gas air cleaner or weld tabs to the 3000 nose cone to mount an oil bath air cleaner to

You'll need to adapt the fuel tank and throttle linkages, some wiring, and make sure the engine has the drive gear on the back of
the cam. It probably will... but check. The basic bolt up is the same. You'll need the flywheel from your tractor or try adapting
a 30 series clutch... which may or may not be the same. Add a shutoff cable for the fuel pump. The 30 series exhaust manifold will
also locate the exhaust forward so you need to either swap manifolds or cut a new hole in the hood. The air intake will also be
different on the gas engine vs the diesel and will probably require some relocation work.
