Can anyone tell what engine is in the IH 270A backhoe and is there a tractor engine that is the same?

All I could find is it is a German made 4 cylinder 268 cid also used in a 844 IH tractor.

Wix catalog (incomplete as to IH) shows that engine (D268, sometimes shown as IH D268)also in:
510, 510B Payloaders;
(no eng shown for 844,844S);
884 Tractor.
Other mfr's of Ag/Ind'l eqpmt used IH engines, but without some kind of a lead it's like looking for needles in haystacks.
I don't know how good IH is about adding a variation number or letter to their basic engine designation if they have variations in valve timing, etc, for the different equipment uses. If you're thinking os swapping parts or engines, it might be a good idea to check with someone who's familiar with them. Good luck.

Thanks at least I can start to look for a D268 engine.
