EWC hub needed.

I have a broken EWC hub on a coverted hay wagon. Its casting # is Q-460, and it is 5 lug, 5.75" bolt pattern, that take a closed center 16" rim. Shoups, Agri Supply, all came up short. I contacted Titan, who ended up owning Electric Wheel Company after some others, and they have sent all their spec sheets to me, but cannot find a cross-reference. My last resort will be to weld a new spindle on and get a new set-up, but would like to find a replacement hub instead. Anyone have any of these laying around they would like to sell?

What size is the spindle----diameter, length, where bearings
ride, numbers on brgs & races if readable?
Give as much info as possible.

I would not be scared to weld that broken piece back on till one was found. How did it break? My

Do you have the broken out piece or is it gone? If I had the broken piece, I'd weld it back in. Grind a V on both edges, clean it up good, bolt it into place on the rim. Get some cast iron rods and weld about an inch in 3 places and let cool, tapping on it as it cools to relieve stress. Wait until cool to touch and add more weld. Repeat until that side is done and let cool, take off of the rim and repeat process on the other side, rind smooth , paint and run it.
 
I've had good luck with these folks - they've had stock of hubs that have worked on two oddball grain wagons of mine, an Allis square baler, and a hay wagon I have made from front axles from a 1950s Chevy trucks. Good prices too - I think the spindle, hub, bearings, and seals for the set I ordered for my Allis baler came to less than $100 total including shipping. It takes a little bit of searching and cross-referencing to find the hub with the bearings you need (for instance, some of the hubs are in there 'Agricultural Hubs and Spindles' section of the website, others are in their 'Slow Speed Hubs and Spindles' section), but they haven't failed me yet.

It's very, very unlikely that you have a hub unique to the Electric wagon company. Pretty much all hubs from the 1940's on were one of a few standard sizes. Someone will have one that matches. But you won't have any luck trying to match the EWC casting number. You'll have to measure the bearing I.D.'s, centers, center hole diameter, lug pitch, etc.

How are you getting 5.75"? The bolt circle for a 5-bolt hub is measured from one lug to one of the "opposite" lugs, not directly across. The standard 5-lug implement bolt pattern is 5-1/2".

I agree, 5x 5 1/2 is the standard size.

In your caliper picture you are not measuring center to center of the studs! Measuring to the outside of one 1/2" stud is adding 1/4" to the true center to center. Your tape measure shows 6" out to out which is 5-1/2" center to center.
 
Looks like 5.5 to me. When BE mentioned you don't measure directly across, he was referring to the theoretical bolt circle. You still measure the lugs centre-to-centre, but you're measuring centre to outside, which is why you're getting 5.75.
 
Very remote possibility but , check out Peru Oliver farm truck # 391 and Electric wheel 391AJ for parts.
You are correct, the casting #Q-460 was for the 391. Bob Obert from Titan Wheel saved some papers when things were getting thrown out. I think these charts are key for people looking for replacement parts. But I'm still no closer, b/c I cant find Olivers for parts anywhere.

Well that makes a huge difference, I've had 3 different ppl tell me to measure from center of one to outside of the other....thank you!
