exhaust leak 51 B

does anyone know if a "cup or donut" gasket is avaiable for the exhaust manifold flange to exhaust pipe flange connection on a late model 'B'? i bought a new pipe when i first got my 51 B and just installed it. you guessed it, the flange is not welded on straight and there is a small gap at bottom when every thing is drawn up slowly. i have tried several times to repossition all connections between muffler mounting and exhaust flange to pipe connection. every time i tighten the bolts, the gap comes back. any advise will be of help. thanks, d. coleman

Have you thought of maybe taking a file and egging out the bolt holes so they don't pull the pipe out of place when you tighten it. You could use some high temp. silicone sealer or funace cement and let it harden up good before you run it. Both would only be a temporary fix.

Take the pipe back to where you got it and tell them what the problem is. Tell them you want a pipe that fits correctly, or your money back.

get a tube of the steel in a tube that you cut and activate it by rolling it togeter until it changes colors. idle the tractor a few minutes just long enough to get thing warm and roll out a snake like piece of this material and force it into the joint. mine has been there 1o years now. also worked great on leaks on the exhaust manifold on a small block cjev engine. applying it when wram makes it stick real good.

thanks for comebacks. i boughyt the pipe over 2 years ago and just got around to installing it. to tell the truth, i really dont remember the place of purches. d. coleman

i removed the pipe and cut a small wedge out up against the flange, tapped with hammer to square the flange to pipe. tack welded(im no welder) and took to our local muffler repair guy for mig weld up. a little wirewheeling later and hi-temp header primer and flat black paint and problem solved. thanks again for responses. d. coleman
