Exhaust Lift

When I was a kid (65 + years ago) my grandfather had an A with the exhaust lift. There was a two way plow on the tractor and each bottom had a lever you pulled to drop the left hand or right hand bottom. The exhaust lit would raise the plow bottom and an over center linkage would hold the plow in the raised position.

Now today I've a friend working with the exhaust lift on an AV using cultivators. He's annoyed that the cultivators won't stay in the up position. Should there be a mechanical lock to hold the cultivators in the raised position similar to what was used on the plow?

Thanks for our replies.

We had a B with exhaust lift for cultivater no mechanical device to hold it up some time it sagged a little when on road so just pull handle and raise it back up. could be leather in cylinder is dry, oil it.
