Can someone help us identify this extra part?

I cannot find it on the parts diagrams but I am pretty sure it is the brake pedal stop. So if they get to far out of adjustment you are not pushing them down into the belt pulley.

Yes that's what it is !

Yes, brake stop, and it can be removed and tossed away. But dont do that, the pedal can go over-center and fall down. Keep the stop in place.

Growing up, my brother and I used it to stand on while refueling the gas tank since we weren't tall enough to stand on the ground.
