Extra switch on 2N

I have a toggle on the dash of my 2N. The on position is marked "start". The off position is marked "run". The switch is wired to the resistor, making or breaking the connection on the two top terminals. Also noticed that the generator cut-out was not connected. Looks "farmerized", as you all say. What s the correct fix?

Sounds like maybe someone has bypassed the resistor to get a hotter spark when starting. Not really necessary if all your connections are clean and tight.
There are some really good wiring diagrams out here, I think they are ones JMOR did.
You will want the cut out wired up correctly.

the ballast resistor already does a hot / cold spark deal.. so the switch really must be masking some other inadequacy in the ignition system.. like burnt points or bad wireing.

if the cutout ain't hooked up.. I assume the bat goes dead and you have to charge it?

post abck some details..

I haven t run it enough to know if it s draining the battery. It s in pieces now for paint. Is there a site where I can get a wiring diagram? It s a 46 2N. Thanks again, you guys are a lot of help.

Email me and I'll send you to a site with an easy to understand wiring diagram. This site won't let me mention it.

the manual has a wire diagram... and you SHOULD have a owners, service and parts manual, if you own the tractor.. especially if you are working on it.

that said.. searching for a wire diagram here will likely turn up 55640 hits. find one by myself or jmor or bob.. it will be accurate.
