Went to take the exhaust studs off my dads wd45 today and they broke off at the head. So I drilled the first one out and got out the ez out. And snapped that sucker off right at the start of the bolt! Does anyone have some magic to get the ez out out? I'm at a loss. Thanks Rusty

This topic is on here at least 3 times a week.A solid carbide drill bit will drill it out if you can get your hands on one. They are about $500.00 for a set up to 1/2 in or you can blow it out with a cutting torch,if you are talented.

Same thing happened to me years back. rather than risking the chance of messing up the head I took it in to a local machine shop and they milled the hole out good as new and didn't cost but very little compared to the price of a head.

If you have a fine welding tip for your gas welder I just heat them up red hot and add a little oxygen and blow it out. Let things cool and then drill. The only easy outs I have found that are worth having are the square shank ones from NAPA. The ones with the phony twisted threads and others just break off.

I learned this from someone else on this forum:

Lowe's has several sizes of small diamond hole saws for $15-$20 each. Get the one that fits over the EZ out and drill out the bolt around the EZ out.

You'll probably need to drill and re-thread the hole to the next size bigger, but that's a small price to pay. It sure beats the alternatives.

Repeat after me: EZ outs are NOT for stuck bolts. If the head twisted off, the EZ out will break.

An edm at the shop can get them out. Sometimes you can back the easy-out out, other times you can break them up with a punch. Welding the washer on has always worked well for me, I've never had a success with an easy-out.
