F-12 Crankcase Oil Level

Is there any way to check the oil level when you do not have petcocks or dipstick? Could you measure from the oil fill neck down with a flexable rod?

Assuming there is no way to return petcocks to working order and assuming you don't have a dipstick(W-12 type pan) I would pull the drain plug draining the engine oil completly. Find a service manual and know exactly how much oil the crankcase is supposed to hold and measure that amount out and put it in. In the mean time I'd get a working oil level check system (working pan) on that old bird.

I suppose you could install a sight glass such as instrumentation or some pipe fitting applications use though if you have gone to the trouble of removing the pan and are going to attempt such a thing you could just as easily solder in the proper pet cocks which as I recall are still available from Rice Equipment.

It is mysterious to me why yours would not have them. Did it come with a dipstick which has since become lost? Or is it not somehow a combination of parts which now includes neither a block with a dipstick or a pan with the petcocks?

I don"t think you would have any luck getting a tube through there. I would get the right pan on it if it doesn"t have petcocks. The kero models have 3 petcocks and the gas tractors have 2.
