I HAVE A 1938 F 12 THAT I PARKED IN THE GARAGE SIX YEARS AGO.IT WAS RUNNING AT THE
TIME BUT NOT LIKE IT SHOULD, LOT,S OF BACKFIRING AN POPPING.TRACTOR WILL NOT START
AT THIS TIME.I would
Like to get it running again.Where should i start?Any help appreciated thanks.

I've had problems with both my 37F12 and 37F30 popping and back firing and in both instances it was a bad plug. For the cost I'd start there.

Crank engine to TDC #1 set mag timing to that, clean carb and fuel pump. Most time I us a little pony tank to feed carb for testing and start up. Than once it is running good hook up fuel pump, most fuel problems are getting fuel from tank to carb.
I like autolite 3076 plug best! Gave up on champion.

You said you use a little pony tank to feed the carb for testing an get it running. How do you go about doing that?

I have a small lawn mower tank with a piece of wire that will hang on the top of steering bolster, it sits higher than the carb so gas will flow down into carb direct disconnect the fuel line from the tee at top of tank and keep bowl under tank shut off. you have bypassed fuel pump. Use this till you get tractor running good and all bugs worked out. than go back and hook up fuel pump lines again.
