F-40 value, hints?

This weekend I will be driving past this old long unused F40 again, flats, missing trans. dipstick on and on. I know these things are worth a few bucks in good shape, what about a non runner? And I have to consider the cost of transport 'if' I can't get it home on my own rig. What are your thoughts gentilemen??? TIA,Tony

I have an F-40 in good shape, but Paul(AZ) is probably the resident expert on them. He has restored one or two. Running they are worth more than the 30s. And probably more than a 35, especially if the 35 does not have the two stage clutch (Deluxe). But if it is a basket case and you have to put a lot of money into it, no matter how cheap you buy it you probably can"t sell it and make money, especially considering your efforts. If making money on it isn"t important, then by all means get it and at the very least you will have some parts in case you find a F-40 runner in the future. They are fairly rare, but not insanely rare. There is a ceiling on what they will bring. My two cents.

I hate to admit, but I am not really a collector as such, and not an 'investor' in old tractors, but still farming..on a small scale, but that's what I shop for, cool old stuff that I enjoy working on, know how to work on- but can just get a job done- Preferably with power steering and a few extra gears, but HAS to have a live or independent pto, for my tiller, snowblower and who know's what else in future. Which is why I was toying with the idea of a hydrualic 'actuator' on a to 30. I have an AC CA, but she rolls too fast for some carefull jobs, trouble is - you guys on here convinced me to 35's fit my trailer, I will have to measure the 40 up, rear flats don't help,the place I farm and the place I have a shop are too far apart to drive on the road- and now you tell me not all 35's have PS and live pto? Is this 40 going to be what I want? I can trace PS lines, but what about pto? The markings on the case? I can't seem to dig up much on them with a search engine, but I try to learn from links and stuff in the left and right menu of different sites. Any ideas on that would be helpfull too- Thanks again- tony

The F-40s all have live PTO (two stage clutch), but they don't all have power steering. It was an option. Mine does not have power steering and it is a little bit of a bother to steer sometimes in a close place. Your trailer should hold an F-40 fine if it will hold a 35. They aren't that much different, mainly just taller and a little heavier but not so much heavier that you should notice much.
