F2 Head drops while running.

My F2 head is dropping fairly quickly. I can stop it with the hydraulic cutoff next to the cab. I am trying to diagnose the problem and cannot seem to figure it out. Should I have the hydraulic valve system rebuilt?

Do you mean it drops on its own? Could be an internal leak in the control valve. If it simply drop too fast, there is an adjustment for that. The header valve is the one in the bank with the adjusting bolt and locknut on it. Cornhead and grainhead adjustments are different- check the combine op manual.

'Poppit valve'.

If your outer spool is the bigger header spool back below the engine on the right side, relieve all pressure on the header (put it down, be safe!!!!) and unscrew the rear big cap. Out will come a little metal rod with a whilte plastic molding on it. The plastic will be cracked, allowing oil to bypass it.

One time the plastic was cracked so the fatter part of the plastic could slide on the metal rod. Could not see the crack, it was always in the right position when I looked at it. Took me a while to figure _that_ one out. The symptom of this one was that the header would go _up_ no matter which way you put the control. Had the head combine mechanic scratching his head on that one, until we saw the odd crack.

Sorry for my confusing description. The outer hyd valve of the stack should be the one you are after, and there is a big (inch or so?) plug or cap on the back of it, that's what you want to unscrew.

Could be other problems, but 10-1 it's this little metal rod & plastic bit.

If i am reading it right then the closest vavle body that the rod runs from the bottom of the cab into the vavlve is the one. The back has a funny looking nut on it that is kind of coned? You take the coned part off anf the plastic should be inside?

FINALLY! It has a chunk missing from inside the valve where the plastic piece sits. New one in route. $88
