Morning: I have located ex-fire truck, from our depts beginning, not much left actually, but the history of how /what
the dept started with is the interest point, as the ordinal members have passed on.
the serial number is 18170741 1546021
engine number tag is RH 4spd 435, i guess right hand engine rotation, 4 speed tranny ,435 cubic inches ?
gross weight is 23000 lbs, single rear axle.
if anyone can breakdown the numbers or confirm what i think they are, it is very much appreciated.
Tks

Since you mentioned F700 I assume it’s a Ford chassis
If so approximately what year?
The serial numbers are nothing I recognize, Ford used a 11 digit code for several years before going to 17 digit. These serial numbers had numbers and letters mixed to identify the chassis
Post a little more info and possibly a photo

I have attached a photo of the visible tag, not a lot to go on, having thought back on the dept years and people involved, the truck could be older than 1962 ? the seller has idea of its history, he's just cleaning out "dads" collection, Tks for your time.

IIRC that flat top cab was used from about 1961 to about 1966. Then had a bubble top until the Louisville's came out.

The lower tag has a transmission code of C4TA7004A, so it’s a least a 64 model and not newer than a 66 model
Doesn’t know what engine code RH is but 64 was the first year for the 361/391 FT engines, the Super Duty 401/477/534 engines were usually reserved for the heavier F800 model
Trans code 4SPD435 would be the New Process 435 4 spd
Rear axle info shows a 6.50/9.04 gear ratios of a 2 spd axle

Now i have good info to pass on, and a continuing mystery of how did the guys back then form a dept in 62, and
get a 64 to 66 truck, funds were not exactly in the back pockets those days...however its listed as having 36,000 miles?
its in a junker yard 30 miles away, so the dept name and closeness matches up.
Tks guys

I am restoring a 1949 Ford F5 fire engine that belongs to a local fire department. It was their first truck. They sold it many years ago and bought it back. Flat head engine and 4 speed transmission. The pump sits out in front of the grill behind an extended bumper. They are spending a mint on this thing. Another local department has a 1950 F 7 with a Lincoln engine. I have worked on it quite a bit too.

Just crusin' by, saw this. The cab was used 1961 to 1966 in US built truck. If it was US built, the vehicle/serial number would start with F70, then rest of production info, ending with the consecutive number for that plant, I think at that time the year was not in the code. Anyway all that is not helping you as you have a Canadian built truck and they use a whole different ID system. You will have to find documentation from Ford of Canada to know how to decode the info. Years ago, I saw a 58 Edsel that had a weird SN and it was Canadian built.
