I have a slight problem with my mag. I tore it all apart for a good cleaning and inspection. The armature (rotating magnetic thing) was completely destroyed. Once out of the housing it just fell apart, magnets, steel plates and broken casting steel everywhere. Now for the hard part. Where can I find the replacement part without buying a whole new mag. Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated. since I finally got the rest of the engine is rebuilt this is the last thing to do. Thanks again. -DM

We need to know more about what Fairbanks Morse unit you have - somewhere on your magneto is information about the model. Does it have a plastic distributor cap? If so, there will be some numbers stamped in like FMJ2B6 or FMX2B6. Let us know what you have and perhaps someone has the magnetic rotor.

However, with the catastrophic failure of the magnetic rotor you likely need other parts, like components of the impulse unit. What is the year and model of your tractor?

1941 B FMJ2B6 Already have a few parts coming but nothing else was broke. all broken pieces came apart once out. didn't destruct while rotating.

You're only talking about $250+/- for a remanufactured mag, and who knows how much for the armature. If that was broken what else is tore up inside ?

So if I understand correctly, all you are looking for is the magnetic rotor for an FMJ2B6 magneto? I'll look and see if I have one, otherwise I would call Mark's Magneto in CT at 860-537-0376 and tell Robin or Mark what you need.

I checked and the rotor I have is for an FMX2B6, and it is different from the one in the FMJ2B6. So, as suggested earlier, try Mark's Magneto. I checked with him and he can come up with one for about $35, plus shipping.
