Fall work is all done

For the first time since I bought this farm the weather allowed me to get all the tillage done this fall. A couple pics of combining and picking corn. 1160 combine and 830 on wagon duty.

400 and 1pr picker for ear corn.

1030 and 16' heavy disc to disc corn stalks. This is a very heavy disc with 24" blades and when it cuts s too much for the 1030. Handled ot fine is stalks.

Then the 1030 on my 6-16s plow.

Worked well and did a nice job.

Did find a few wet spots, but was able to plow right through them.

Jon, what's the reason for picking ear corn if you have a combine/ picker-sheller? Excuse my non-farmer ignorance.

And I don't get how you plowed through standing water (without a pic of a very stuck tractor). steve

What my father would have given to have ground like that. Here the ground is full of Breeding rocks. New ones come to the top every year.

Just tweak the 3 point a bit to get through those wet spots. I use to do the same thing.

Ear corn is better feed for cattle that shelled corn. It went away mostly because it takes too much space for large farms and too much trucking. As for the water, it's hard to get stuck in the fall here, not that it doesn't happen if it's wet enough. This year it was dry til about a month ago, then got wet. So it's very hard beneath. This went better than I thought tho.

That's bot mine, this is rented land. They did get several deer out of that field.

There are plenty of rocks in these fields, I have 2 broken shares again and put 1 new one on to start. The new one is one of the broken ones. My land is only a mile or so away and has no rocks.

Thank you both for not talking down to someone wanting to still learn. I grew up in S. Minnesota farm country but wasn't really involved in the day to day, except during baling and stacking. I appreciate having folks that are willing to teach and doing it well. steve

I see the coulters are in the right place above the plow. I never had much use for them in ant case . All they ever did was make the plow plug worse.

Funny you would mention that the coulters weren't being used. Since Jon disked the stalks I can see that they would go through The last time I plowed stalks the field had been no-til planted and the stalks were not disked. It is my observation that current day stalks are a lot tougher than back when we were plowing all the time. Anyway I had a White 4-18s plow with spring cushioned wavy coulters. The back bottom kept plugging until I had tightened that spring down as far as it would go. It was smooth sailing from then on.

Nice to see the older Case stuff still working. Never saw too many Case combines around.

back home (Delaware) most were Gleaners and MFs then IHs and a rare Deere combine and a rare White (must have been a White/Oliver dealer around Georgetown somewhere). Actually there may have been more MFs than Gleaners??. regardless I cannot say I've ever seen a Case combine in use. only one i can recall even seeing was at a dealer and another one was sitting parked in the weeds in south western Michigan.
