What is the simplest way to remove a fan belt to change a water pump on an 8N?

Loosen the generator adjustment bolt and the two pivot bolts on the bottom of the generator and push the generator towards the engine to release tension on the belt.

If you have a fan shroud, push one side of the belt between two fan blades and spin the fan while holding the other side of the belt stationary. It should walk right off for you with very little blood letting. Reverse the procedure to install the new belt.

Be thankful you don't have a front end loader with a front mounted hydraulic pump to complicate things even more.

ditto what DB abd 36 said.. the fan trick usually works fine with minimal cutting or fin bending on the core.. and if you do cut it.. have the correct one in hand first.. but i wouldn't cut it unless it was worn..
