farm & dog:

We had a yellow lab. Took him on a dove hunt. On the way back out of the field he crossed over through the corner of a cow pasture we had parked Dad's Station Wagon near. We were loading the guns in the car and calling him to come get in the car to go. He is in the pasture running toward us when he stops and sniffs something. Then he take off and runs thirty feet or so Turns around and heads back to where he sniffed as hard as he can run then slides through a fresh juicy cow pie. he gets up and runs and comes back and slid though on his other side. He is covered from nose to tail both sides and now he's ready to get in the car with a smile on his face like he put on a new suit. Luckily we had cousin a half mile away he followed us till we could get him washed off to get in the car to go home.

It's possible that the dog is trying to get rid of the smell of what we think is good smelling soap you wash him with (assuming you wash him with fragrant soap).

My dog often finds a 'pile' that a deer left. guess it's a 'deerpie'.. Well dog will lay on it, roll on it, and of course it shows. Anyone got a tip on stopping that. I suppose I could check the lot often and throw something over it. ? but I would not want to roam the lot with a bucket. Or maybe just dissuade the deer from sleeping in my 1 acre, mowed side lot.? Oh ya, I haven't caught him in the act yet, so it's hard to teach him NO !!
I'm not as bad as your dog, but wherever deer hunting if I find there scat I grind my boots in it to hide my sent

We had a collie saint bernard that would roll in anything she could find. She was a great dog except for that. Our German Shepherd, Lab Rottweiler cross, Blood Hound never did. Our Bassett Hound would. Now we have a Great Pyrenees and Akbash mix, she has done it once or twice. This weekend we're getting an Antolian Shepherd Great Pyrenees cross. Guess we'll find out on that one!

I remember in the mid 90s my parents bought some sausage. I think it was Johnsonville. They didn't like it so they gave it to me to try. My parents are very picky about their food. I tried it and didn't like it either. So I gave a piece to my Bassett Hound that I had at the time. She took it in her mouth, dropped it on the floor and rolled on it. I guess she knew it wasn't worth eating too!
