Farm Insurance

I'm new to rural farm ownership. I have a property that I use for recreational purposes and have built a couple barns to house my treasured old Ford Tractors. I live in suburban ATlanta and when I tell my story to my agent they seem to be like a deer in the headlights. This morning I contacted Georgia Farm Bureau Insurance and they also don't write for barns and equipment but go out to others to write a policy. Clearly I have two primary concerns. First if the drug addicted kids nearby decide to have a bonfire with my barns at the center and second, if they feel like stealing a 1940's and 50's Ford tractor will make their life complete. What are some good sources to talk to on this specialized insurance. At this time I have no primary dwelling on the site and have no plans to in the near future. I do have a camper on site that is great for hanging on the weekend.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Rick

I would say keep checking locally as what may be available here (co-op) insurance may not be available where you are. Off topic (OT) questions should be posted under tractor talk where most people hang out here. As soon as somebody else starts a new thread on the N board nobody is going to see your question unless they check out the N board on a regular basis.

in our area of west ky.
farm bureau agents seem to be more understanding of farm related hazards.

might check with them.

I live in Augusta, own a farm outside of it and work at a historic property that has all sorts of "unusual" dwellings and buildings. Our independent agent has never indicated a problem with finding carriers for the property casualty coverage, and that includes structures such as barns, gazebos, corn cribs, etc.

To be presumptuous, I would think a primary concern would be liability insurance, especially given your stated fears. Even my city State Farm agent understands that, and raised no questions when I asked for a quote for $3m coverage at the farm.

Check with a Nationwide Agribusiness agent. Largest farm writer in the country. They may not want it however since there is no one living on the premises.... could be considered a vacant property of sorts. Their underwriters will have to decide.

When I had trouble getting appropriate insurance for my cabin, I told the insurance company that it sounded like they were telling me that I had to get that insurance through a different company. I then reminded then that I had my home and auto insurance with them, and that I really wanted to keep all my insurance in one place. They seemed to find a policy with appropriate coverage pretty quickly after that...
