farmall 130

Hey guys. i just bought a 130 barn find. Im a bit confused about it. It has yellow paint showing all over it where the red is coming off. Also the serial number tag on the bell housing is painted over and is in bad shape. However the number stamped is plain and is 12293. There were not that many 130s made. Anybody got any insight ? Phil.

I am hopping out on a limb, which I like to do a lot. I am going to guess the first character in your serial number in the letter ..I.. for ..Industrial.. thus the yellow paint. SN 2293 would make it a 1957 model, see link. Doing more limb grasping I believe common items on industrial models were a square front axle and a foot throttle.

I don't think IH typically stamped an "I" in front of the serial nuber on that model. (I could be wrong. There weren't many Industrial 130s.) Another possibility is that it is actually a 100 rather than a 130. 100 serial numbers did go that high. You could check the engine number (stamped at the upper edge of the block, below spark plug 1). A 100 with that serial number should have an engine somewhere around 27,000. Any 130 should have an engine number over 36,000.

I dont think its a frankenstien tractor because every part of it has the yellow on it. Its a pretty tight
tractor also. Steering is tight, front wheel bearings tight, and not much wear on the pedals. I dont know.

There aren't any obvious differences between the 100 and 130. Most people could only distinguish them by the labeling (the serial plate that can't be read, and the stainless steel "100" or "130" emblems on each side of the hood). A hood or just the emblems can migrate pretty easily from another tractor. If it was originally in industrial use, it may have not even had the emblems.

Mr. Becker, i checked the engine number and it is 22021. All the casting numbers are the same at 11 25 A ,
so i guess its an industrial 100 with 130 emblems on it. Thank you for your help. Phil.

All the data you have gathered is in pretty good agreement as a model 100. But I have one more twist to throw at you. For the 100 models, the industrial ran a separate set of serial numbers from the Farmalls. Industrial serials never got out of 3 digits. It looks like you have a Farmall 100 with a heavy duty front axle. That axle was available as an option. If it had been an industrial, it should have had a foot speed control.

There were Farmalls that were built with the heavy front axle then put into commercial use. So a (possibly) original yellow paint job would not have been out of place either.

Ok. Well i see no evidence of a foot throttle, but the yellow was for sure the original color. So i guess i
just have a 100 . Now i dont know what color to paint it . LOL Im pretty sure its a nice tractor though.
Thanks again.

Mr. Becker, i have another question for you. I looked up the serial # i have in the farmall registry on here
under 100,s and it says its a 56 model. 130,s were built 56 to 58 were they not ? So maybe it could be a
130. Whats your thoughts. Everything on the tractor is factory. The wiring , the coil, the radiator, the
carburetor and everything else ive checked. Hope im not worrying you. Phil.

Harvester did not make a practice of changing models with the calendar year. They did often make breaks at the end of their fiscal year, the end of October. But even that was only if it worked into other plans. In the case of the 100/130, it did line up with their financials.

The last 100s were built in September, 1956. They were serials 18550 through 18940. They built none in October. In November they started 130 production with serial 501. In December they continued with serial 734. In January, 1957 they started the new year with serial 1120. So any 130 built in 1956 has a seriel number 1120 or less.

Your serial number 12293 was built in December, 1955. Serial numbers for that month were 11635 through 12894 (inclusive).

Note that some published serial number lists report based on fiscal not calendar years. Thus November/December production appears as the next year. Such a list for the 100 would list 10356 as the first serial for 1956 and put your tractor into 1956.

For a different example at the next model change, the last 130 was built in May, 1958. The first 140 was built June 1958.

I know this can get confusing. I hope I made it clear enough.
