Farmall 140 Implements

Last Sunday I picked up another 140. The retired farmer said he wouldn't sell without the implements. I ended up with the 140 plus all the implements I could get in my 8ft pickup bed plus in front, under, and back of the 140. My question is: Is there a book or books that would help me identify the parts?

Vacherie: I have seen a book, by IH that included all attachments for the SA. A book seller near me had a copy and wanted about $75. for it. I declined telling him if he could find me a similar book that included fast hitch implements, I would buy. I have been told the such a book was put out in days of 100 and 130, but I've yet to see it.

I will look for one. I have paid almost that much for a John Deere manual. I will probably never use any of the implements but would like to know how to. Some of the implements I bought were middlebuster, turning plow, 144 cultivators, fertilizer unit and many plows and what looks a spike tooth unit about 32" long.

Some of the implements were also farm built or built by the IHC dealer.

IH made Parts Catalogs that had implements grouped together in various ways. None were all inclusive and implements covered changed with various revisions. Some times a section might be in the index but the contents was one page that refered you to another manual. So you have to be careful about what you are getting if you buy one unseen.

I have a copy of "SAI-1" which is the first major revision of "Farm Implements for use with Farmall Super-A Tractor." It has 12 sections, over 600 pages, and covers most that was available at publication time (1949).

I also have 2 copies of "F1I-1", the equivalent manual for the 100 (1955). As originally published, it was a lot like SAI-1 but including some Fast-Hitch machines. One copy was updated with revision pages through Revision 12 (2/62). A lot of the revisions were done be removing sections and replacing them with 1 page that said "Refer to xxx Parts Catalog for listing." It is probably 1/3 of the original thickness.

Vacherie: As you probably know I have a Super A, 130 and a 140. in my lifetime I've owned two other Super A and another 130. I have close to 20 implements or attachments for my tractors, some of them IH originals, some 3 point to 1 point conversions and some of them fabrications I built from the ground up. I also have 3 point hitch kits, ( my own fabrications) for my 130 and 140. I've been playing with this close to 45 years, really only seriously since 1990.

If you would like some photos send me an e mail. Indicate the type of implements or attachments your interested in. I don't have photos for all items, and there are also items I've sold as I no longer had a use for them. Still have a decent selection even some photos of items I no longer have. I can also tell you about some of my conversions and fabrications that didn't work. Not all were a success.

Vacherie, It appears that over the years IH transferred implements parts information and illustrations from one manual to another at random. I have one manual SAI-1A, Farm Implements for use with Farmall Super A. I have another manual CBI-1A, Farm Implements for use with Farmall Cub. And when I look up some of the implements you mention, and turn to that page, I am instructed that some have been transferred to CU-3 manual. I don't have a CU-3 manual. Some of the information you are looking for is in the manuals that I have, but not all. Looks like you may have to go to a tractor show where manuals are sold and search through them. Good luck. John
