Farmall 300

If my 300 sits for a month or two I have to loosen the output side of the pump until it sprays some fluid out. Then everything works good, I replaced the suction side hose thinking that was the problem but nothing has changed. Hi-Tran fluid level is good. Any ideas?

Air could be leaking in from anywhere down stream of the the pump output. That could be tough to find without tearing down the whole system. Plumbing an easy to use bleed-off port at the pump output might be the simplest solution until the root cause cannot be found.

An air leak is likely the cause. With it shut off, and Hytran full, putting pressure into the fill port (not a lot, like 20psi) and watch for leaks. (It is conceivable that the pump seal could leak air in, but retain pressure on the inside. Distributor drive leaks, or over filled engine oil are possible if it leaks at the seals. Jim
