Farmall 340 Pulling

How does the farmall 340 do pulling? How light can you get them? Is their a bigger/better engine that can bolt right into it?

It has a super C class engine in an H ish style drive train. a 153 combine engine can be made to fit, with some effort, but it is not (opinion) real competative unless mony is poured into where it used to be. Jim

A 340 is underpowered and overweight. Not a good puller.

The rear end is actually pretty much the same as a 460, with a Super C engine up front.

A 240 would be much more competitive because it has a Super C rear end. The C153 from a combine/swather will also fit this tractor also.

340's are nice little tractors for most light farm jobs . Jim Nicholson said it best NOT a puller , heavy rear end , light front end , and without a pile of money that a grown kangaroo can't jump , you won't have a chance of winning anything except highest wheelie. I own a few and use one regularly and like them very much . If you want a red tractor use something else .
