Farmall 340 rear end

My neighbor has a 340 that he is looking to sell, I went over and took some pictures to post it for him, but in the process, I found an issue. When the pto is disengaged it starts making a loud squealing noise, but when it is engaged the noise goes away. Does anyone have an idea on what the cause might be?

There are two possible types of IPTO: one is planetary and is controlled by bands that could be worn out, or way out of adjustment. it has a lever that locks with a push button Down for OFF and brakes, and Up for run. This also has a wear prone linkage on top of the axle where the lever attaches. This must have zero slop to work correctly. Find Janicholson 300 PTO adjustment for that. The clutch type is controlled by an over center handle with multi disc clutches that engage or brake the output. It may need new discs to operate, or a bearing. If it turns when OFF it will require rebuilding to fix.
