Farmall 340 Steering

My brother-in-law is wondering if there is a way to put power steering on a Farmall 340. did anybody ever make an aftermarket power steering for that tractor?

Factory power steering on that tractor is a hydraulic motor in the steering column. The motor is similar to a CharLynn motor used on the old Farmall H's and M's for power steering.

You're not going to find a "kit" that you can order off the internet. You might be able to find a 340 in a salvage yard with the power steering system intact. Get the parts and put them on the brother-in-law's tractor. Otherwise you could probably figure out a way to adapt a CharLynn steering torque generator.

I wasn’t aware that that Tractor had power steering. I’m not real familiar with that Tractor. I’ll have to let them know. He’s gonna have to scrounge around and see if he can find steering for the Tractor. The tractor is for a friend of his. He wants to buy the tractor, but wants to make sure he can get power steering on it.

I switched PS from one of my 340's to the other. It went well but having them side by side was just the ticket. Working under that dash to mount the orbit motor was a real test of dexterity, though.

I found an article in red power about the subject of power steering in at 340. That should help them out. I think they’re going to try and repair of the standard steering and see if it’s works better. Before changing to power steering.
